1. The Project

Sobon Wine Company has a rich history of family winemaking in Amador County with some of the oldest producing vineyards in California and they needed a wine label that reflected that. Amador County is in a very historical part of California so I was asked to make a wine label that reflected the history of the area, the family, and refresh the look of their classic line of wines. I handled the design process from research both online and in stores to testing, final production, and printing. This new estate style label has had great feedback from customers and improved our shelf visibility in stores through the country.

2. The Goals

Improve shelf visibility in stores
Tell the story of the family and reflect Sobon Estate better than the previous labels
Refresh the label to have a more modern look.

Designing

I created these labels with two different formats in mind; one for high-shoulder bottles and one for low shoulder bottles. The final goal was to have a label design that could be altered to fit all the different types of wines in the Sobon Estate standard line of distributed wines which ranges from white and light colored wines to reds and bordeaux to standard wine bottles. I made a few different styles after researching different designs that were currently on store shelves and new designs online.

Final

After working with management, we narrowed it down to a classic estate style label and started working on the story to write on the back label and I photoshopped an old sketch of the estate farm house that still sits on the vineyard property today. By the end, I made a label that was both informative about the wine and connected customers with the winery that these wines come out of. The classic feel with a fresh look catches the eye with a bit of color and gold but also maintains a consistency between wines that customers are familiar with.
